Course Description
This course provides an introduction to and a survey of the profession of professional counseling. It is designed to familiarize graduate students who are preparing to enter the counseling profession with a basic knowledge of the counseling field and the MAC program. Content includes an overview of the profession’s historical and philosophical foundations and current trends. Multiple topics will be introduced which will be explored in greater depth in subsequent courses. Topics include but are not limited to ethics codes, laws, HIPAA, and documentation. The course will facilitate development on the part of each student of an identity as a professional counselor and/or marriage and family therapist. The purchase of Tevera is a requirement of the Professional Orientation course. This product provides CACREP mandated Assessment Management, Field Experience tracking, and Program Outcomes documentation. Students will then use it for the remainder of their career to document continuing education.
